Start with the vehicle identity and the old part, then collect numbers, casting marks, mounting points, dimensions and connector details. Ask sellers for matching evidence before comparing delivered cost.
Garage checklist
- Photograph every marking
- Measure mounting points
- Record connectors and handedness
- Check superseded numbers
- Ask for donor vehicle details
- Compare seller photos with your own
- Record return terms and delivered cost
Name the evidence, not just the part
A seller title is not fitment proof. Create a small evidence pack with the vehicle details, old-part photos, dimensions, markings and the exact area where it fits.
Treat compatibility claims as claims
Ask what the part was removed from, which numbers are visible and whether the seller can photograph the mounting face. Keep unknowns explicit rather than turning them into confidence.
Price the return risk
A part with weak evidence and no return path carries a different cost from a verified part. Record freight, duty, tax, domestic collection and the practical cost of getting it wrong.
Limits and safety
Restore Replace does not claim supplier relationships or guarantee fitment. The owner approves every contact, purchase and payment.
Evidence and sources
- Vehicle manufacturer parts catalogues where lawfully available
- Owner-supplied photos, measurements and seller evidence
