Photograph the whole plate square-on, add a close-up, avoid glare and keep every uncertain character marked as uncertain. A plate helps narrow identity, but it does not replace registration or manufacturer verification.

Control glare and angle
Move the light rather than tilting the camera until reflections clear. Take more than one frame because stamped characters can disappear under direct flash.
Separate transcription from interpretation
First record only what can be read. Then compare known manufacturer formats. Keep any interpretation labelled as a possible match.
Protect private information
Identity plates may contain information you do not want in a public post. Restore Replace stores project photos privately and does not require a public image URL for analysis.
Limits and safety
Do not alter, restamp or misrepresent vehicle identifiers. Contact the appropriate registration authority or manufacturer when identity is disputed.
