No-crank describes a symptom, not a failed part. Confirm the vehicle is safe, record what happens at the key or button, inspect battery condition and connections, then test the starting circuit with the correct vehicle information.
Garage checklist
- Secure the vehicle
- Record lights, clicks and dash behaviour
- Check battery voltage correctly
- Inspect terminals and earths
- Check park/neutral or clutch conditions
- Use the wiring diagram
- Stop if testing is unsafe or unclear
Describe the symptom precisely
One click, repeated clicking, silence and a crank that does not fire are different paths. Write down the exact event and what changed recently.
Test before replacing
A battery voltage reading without load, a visual fuse check or an OBD code may not isolate the fault. Use the correct test point, expected value and safe meter range.
Record the result
Save each reading with the conditions under which it was taken. This prevents the same test being repeated and gives a specialist something useful if the job is handed over.
Limits and safety
Starting circuits can move the vehicle, arc, heat cables or expose rotating parts. Stop if you cannot secure the vehicle or identify the correct test procedure.
